This Is Your Moment

by Dawn May

At some point, you “fell off”. You can’t quite place when it happened, but you wake up one day and realize that you knew that something was wrong. It started off as a bad day. That bad day turned into a bad couple of days, which turned into a bad week. Then, months go by, and so do years, and time from your viewpoint begins to bleed together. And then suddenly, you find yourself in a hole that you can’t quite escape from or comprehend. You look in the mirror or have moments throughout your day where you think “what is my life”, or “what is the point of all this”. It starts to feel like you are driving down a barren, empty road, going nowhere.

We can assure you that you’re not going crazy. In fact, so many of us will go through this exact chapter in their life. Yet, no one wants to talk about it.

You may feel “lost” but you are never truly lost. You are exactly where you need to be, your mind just hasn’t caught up to it yet. The beautiful and scary thing about this world is that no one really knows why we are all here, or what is what is waiting for us on “the other side” so to speak. It feels like a dream sometimes, so much so that it takes your breath away.

“You will one day experience joy that matches this pain. You will cry euphoric tears at the Beach Boys, you will stare down at a baby’s face as she lies asleep in your lap, you will make great friends, you will eat delicious foods you haven’t tried yet, you will be able to look at a view from a high place and not assess the likelihood of dying from falling. There are books you haven’t read yet that will enrich you, films you will watch while eating extra-large buckets of popcorn, and you will dance and laugh and have sex and go for runs by the river and have late-night conversations and laugh until it hurts. Life is waiting for you. You might be stuck here for a while, but the world isn’t going anywhere. Hang on in there if you can. Life is always worth it.” ― Matt Haig, Reasons to Stay Alive

If you look closely between those little moments, you’ll find something truly magical – that song that resonated with you, watching the stars at night, or those cozy Saturday mornings. It’s there waiting for you; all you have to do is take it. Sometimes, you will have to walk alone. When it comes to certain things, only you have the power to change it. But that power is also what can bring you so much potential. This is your journey. Every second, every minute of your life can become something beautiful, it’s easier than you think to find it, all you have to do is take a second and look closer. This is your moment, your chance, and your time to shine from the inside out.
